Mount Meru 4,565m (14,976 ft) above sea level is a dormant but not extinct volcano. The mountain is among the highest free standing walk-able summit in Africa at 4,565 m. above sea level.
The Momella route is the only route up Meru Mountain. Mount Meru climbing expedition is a great way to prepare you for Kilimanjaro Mountain climbing. Momella route has two large, well-maintained bunkhouses on the main route up the mountain conveniently spaced for a 4 – day trek. You can also camp near the huts in case there is a large group of trekkers on the mountain at the same time as you, the huts may be full and you might have to camp.
Why this itinerary?
Specifically for very fit people. We normally recommend the 4 day version. A beautiful mountain to hike, great for pre Kilimanjaro acclimatization or as part of a trilogy of East Africa’s highest peaks. Also superb pre safari for hikers or the adventurous.
